FREE Pregnancy Tests
A pregnancy test can quickly determine whether or not a woman is pregnant. These test are effective even early in the pregnancy. The method uses immunochromatography to measure a certain hormone called human chorionic gonadotropin (HCG), produced by the placenta. The test uses a urine sample to measure the hormone, and can detect a positive pregnancy as early as 7-10 days after conception. The test is very specific, meaning other hormones or substances do not interfere with the results. The tests are most effective when a sample is taken from the first urination of the morning.
As with other lab tests, the pregnancy test will not provide a diagnosis. A doctor can make a diagnosis only after examining you clinically and reading the test results.
There are very few false-positives - when a test shows positive but the person is not really pregnant. However, false-positives can occur in certain pathological situations: non-trophoblastic neoplasm, testicular tumor, prostate cancer, breast cancer, pulmonary cancer. Those types of tumors can raise the HCG level and may be detected by the pregnancy test, even if a woman is not pregnant.
If it has been 7-10 days since a likely conception, you are welcome to come to CPV for a free, safe, and confidential pregnancy test.
